D.KAY
Undoubtebly one of the industry's most successful producers to date: with
a track record that covers all the corners of the drum & bass genre. Including
the likes of the hard-hitting 'Martians' to the delightful sounds
of 'Devotion' and mainstream success with the likes of 'Honey'
(Sanctuary) and the ground-breaking 'Barcelona' (Sony BMG).
Born and rasied in Vienna, Austria it's no great surprise that D Kay didn't
get the drum & bass bug until in and around 1997, like many dance music enthusiasts
before him he was quick to master the skills of mixing before deciding to put
the musical knowledge gained from his formative years into action in a bedroom
based studio.
Within a year D Kay's first tune 'Monilith' was picked up by
arguably the scene's most promintent imprint of that time: Moving Shadow.
Even after a number of exclusive offers from various labels, D Kay decided to
release his music across a number of different UK based labels, as he felt strongly
that different labels would be better pushing his different styles.
It was around the time of the millennium that D Kay's career reached new
heights, with unprecedented radio support from a drunm&bass track 'Barcelona'
signed to Sony BMG entered the UK national chart at #14 whilst topping the UK
dance chart.
After his mainstream success D Kay was quick to return to the underground, teaming
up with the a combination of his talented associates. Rawfull, with whom he formed
the collective Ill.Skillz (arguably Austria's most successful dnb collective
to date), Marcus Intalex, DJ Lee, Calyx, DJ Mat and Epsilon.
Along with a whole host of DJ bookings another fruit of his success has been his
monthly 'Dog's Bullocks' radio show on Austria's mainstream
FM4. Broadcast throughout Austria and throughout Eurpoe via digital.
In recent months D Kay has been in the studio producing beats for two award-winning
imprints, Goldie's Metalheadz and Ed Rush & Optical's Virus Recordings.
D Kay has also been busy working on what will be his debut artist album, a proposed
release date of late 2006.
Other than that, D Kay has been busy being label boss for both his Brigand Music and Illskillz Recordings. The forthcoming stacked release schedules include releases from D Kay, DJ Lee and remixes from Dom&Roland and Calyx. Be sure to look out for the label's first mix compilation, which will feature the entire catalogue to date as well as some previously unreleased exclusives.
